After a bitter battle, and the loss of ships and men on both sides, the Thai troops were victorious, and drove the French squadrons out. A Buddhist merit-making ceremony dedicated to the sailors and officers of the Royal Thai Navy who lost their lives is held every year, on 17th of January.
